Alphabe Thursday … P is for People

September 3, 2015

Povo que não sabe amar

A sua própria cultura

vive imitando os outros

Com os gestos de loucura

povos de outros países

Lhes criticam com censura

People not knowing or loving their own culture, lives only by imitating others with crazy gestures

therefore, open to criticism and censorship from outsiders

Strong words here … for me in a country of diversity and of migrant stock I sometimes wonder where or what my culture is … adopting a bit of this and that and disregarding the other … is that so wrong?

No, I don’t think so. We kind of evolve.

I think that’s what life is all about — continually adopting, adapting, and modifying one’s another others’ culture, as well as perpetuating things that are important to oneself. Long ago a college professor told me something similar, and I felt I was screwed for life because at the time I was confused about where I belonged.
