There are not so many nursery rhymes beginning with ‘I’ but my favourite is:-

Ipsey Wipsey Spider (Incy Wincy)

Climbing up the spout :

Down came the rain

And washed the spider out:

Out came the sunshine

And dried up all the rain:

Ipsey Wipsey spider

Climbing up again

Not sure of its origin but at least it is a happy Nursery Rhyme or at least has a happy ending … and involved a bit of role play!

    We used to say it “Itsy bitsy”. I used to sing that to my kids when they were little guys…

    I still sing it sometimes when I spot a spider…. LOL… Great nursery rhyme!

    And all this time I thought it was an itsy bitsy spider! Very familiar with this little song. Always think about it when I wash a bug down the drain. {:-D

    Die klitzekleine Spinne…

    That’s how the rhyme starts in German. Love it!

    Our youngest Grandlittle came to visit yesterday and we sang this exact song over and over.

    He laughed delightedly everytime the rain washed the spider out!

    Thanks for the smile and for the memory of many children sharing this rhyme and fingerplay with me in the past!

    A++
