Alphabe Thursday … V is for Vegetable Baskets

April 18, 2013

Am I the only one who struggles to find an original post using letters at this end of the alphabet? Am I the only one who resorts to cheating? Or making new rules as I go along?

Some of these baskets were used when collecting potatoes before farming became so mechanised. Potatoes are vegetables aren’t they? So could some of these be considered vegetable baskets? I hope so! However it was a fun way to spend a lunch break and look a little more closely at our collections.

These baskets are  from the collections of the Museum of English Rural Life. Images copyright Museum of English Rural Life, University of Reading (2013)

Very different from the enormous potato rising machines that thunder around our Herefordshire lanes today! I was thinking how heavy these baskets would have become when filled up with muddy wet potatoes. No romance of the countryside for farm workers in earlier times!

Nah, I would struggle with it too. Fortunately, I’m mostly the Image Person at Undead in the Netherworld. The other members of the team tend to do the writing, I just select the images.

Baskets have been my saving grace! They’ve held all my junk that I simply cannot part with, including the toys, shoes, and what-nots that I plan to deal with later! Love your pictures and the stories behind them!

I just love baskets myself. And you can use them for vegetables if you want! {:-Deb

I thought that I would have positive feedback on the baskets. But will try harder next time. Thank you all for kind and thoughtful responses. It has been a good week _/\_ xx

A very clever post! It is difficult coming to the end of the Alphabet and finding things to share. You did a great job! Have a wonderful weekend.

I kind of struggle but usually I just come up with a word that at least slightly relates to the post and starts with the right letter… Like the photos.

I have found this also. In fact the whole business of blogging is out of my control … so I panic a bit when the word doesn’t come _/\_ x
